I turned 26 yesterday and I’m feeling pretty good about it. I got a little money from my dad and a gift card from my mother. I spent the gift card on two knitting books, Knitting without Tears by Elizabeth Zimmermann and the new Patricia Cornwell novel “Predator”. Drew was under strict orders not to buy me anything but he still went out and got a card and flowers for me.

My oldest little brother called me today, which was nice but very unusual for him. Must be the work of his fiancee because in no other year of our lives has Colin remembered my birthday. We talked for almost 2 hours, about the ship he’s on, the people he works with and of course about family, mostly about Zeb (my youngest brother).

Colin thinks Zeb should go to the Seaman school he went to in Maryland to become a Merchant Marine with whatever certifications that entails and then either join a cruise line or work on a tugboat or freighter. Colin’s dream is for he and Steph to live on St. Thomas and teach scuba diving, and for Zeb to live with them and work for a sailboat company on the island.

Sounds like a dream life to me… too far away from my life to really comprehend.
