Memorial Day at the Lake

Wordful Wednesday is like Wordless Wednesday, only WITH words. It’s for those of us that can’t contain the chatter, but in a good way. You can find out more about participating in Wordful Wednesday by visiting Seven Clown Circus.

I’m suffering from a sinus infection this week, so my productivity levels are at a low. My husband was visited, ever so briefly, by this same affliction last week. I made the mistake of saying, “I’d have the cold for you if I could, babe.” Apparently the sinus infection saw that as an open invitation, rather than a wife placating her husband, and jumped aboard. Oh joy!

I’m sure it didn’t help that I spent Monday afternoon swimming in still-quite-cold Lake Jocassee for Memorial Day. That’s kind of like rolling out the red carpet for a sinus infection…. still, I don’t regret it. We cooked out hot dogs and had homemade potato salad and mac & cheese. Our friends M & JB, along with their 3 kids, joined us. Everyone swam, everyone had fun… a very successful day!

Honestly, we were having such a good time that no one remembered to take pictures… it would have been the perfect day to have an unobtrusive personal photographer hanging around, to capture all those happy moments of laughter and swimming and debating over how blackened a hotdog can get before it’s considered “burnt” rather than “well done”.

At one point, M’s 14-year-old boy asked me if there were crocodiles in the lake. I said no, but I have it on good authority that there are mermaids. I don’t think he believed me, but he did swim further out from then on… probably hoping to be swept away by a beautiful mermaid.

I hope everyone had a happy Memorial Day! Wish me luck in getting rid of this sinus infection!
