We are settling nicely into our new home in Texas! The trip was… an adventure, to say the least. Comedy of errors might be a more apropos way of putting that, but in the end we made it!
Finances fell through with the moving truck, so we ended up putting our precious belongings into a storage unit and driving from South Carolina to Texas with only what we could fit into the trunk of our little Saturn coupe, plus one ornery kitty cat. It was very difficult to leave things behind, especially when we had so carefully chosen what we would keep and sold the rest at our yard sale. We miss our books and personal treasures and keepsakes, but we’ll bring them here as soon as we can afford to. All the more reason to buckle down and bring in some bank!
The girls are starting school Monday, if all goes well with registration. School supplies have been purchased, backpacks have been packed and first day of school outfits have been selected. Our hosts Melissa & John have two kids, a 12 year old daughter and an 8 year old son, and they get along very well with our girls.
There are kids everywhere in this neighborhood, which is new for us. I had to practice the art of “letting go” today, when my two wanted to go down the street to play with a new friend. I have such a hard time having my kids out of my sight, in a stranger’s home. Lack of practice, I suppose. They went and had a wonderful time… came running back to show their rooms off to their new friends. It’s different… an adjustment period for me… but I am thrilled to see them doing so well, and making FRIENDS! They’ve never had that, and it makes my heart happy.
It’s hot here, and the traffic is a confusing mess to us… but the sky is huge and endless and the stars are crystal clear. I think we’ll do well here, and I feel the hope that we drove six states to find.
We’re excited to be in Texas!
