Another knitting project… DONE!
Years ago, my mom made two very lovely feather and fan blankets for my older girls — deep purples and jewel tones for Lakin, bright rainbow colors for Addah. The blankets are made from Sugar and Cream cotton in the “feather and fan” stitch, so they are light and airy, while still warm and cozy. The blankets have been washed a million times and still look as good as new.
When I found out my sister was due with her first baby in September 2009, I thought, “ohhh, I’ll finish that pretty pastel blanket for this baby!”
Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
Fast forward to when my sister was due with her second baby in June 2010… and I said to my husband, “I’ll finally finish that pastel blanket for this baby. It’s about time, don’t you think?”
And yeah, that didn’t happen either.
I had the same “yeah… blanket!” thoughts when my sister-in-law and brother were pregnant with their first, when my cousin got pregnant and when we were pregnant with Clara, but we were moving to Texas and back, and living in a hotel, and besides, I had other blankets in mind for our baby.
This pastel blanket and the unused balls of yarn just sat, forgotten, in a bag in our storage unit, for the majority of the time since it was begun. Poor things.
Finally, 4 years, 8 months and 26 days after this pretty little blanket was begun (with the best of intentions), it is finished! It’s very soft, especially after a quick wash and tumble dry to remove four and a half years of storage unit dust, and is currently residing on the couch.
All those lofty ideas over the years about who I might gift the blanket to… and in the end, I’ve decided to give it to myself. After all, I get cold when I’m watching television and blogging at night.
