Recirculating Inspiration

While clicking through my blog reader one fine day, I found a post from Lindsey of The Pleated Poppy had created beautiful artwork after being inspired by a friend. It was a lovely piece, made from framed canvas and bright colored paint.

I felt inspired myself! If they can do it, so can I!

And I did! I solicited help from David and we set to work tracing many (many, many) circles onto a piece of 24″ x 36″ canvas that had been hiding out in the back of our storage space for a very long time.

Many nights of painting our artwork followed… but it was fun! We found ourselves really looking forward to our painting time in the evenings. We went with a bright aqua for the background, which I am very happy with. The petals are completely random… no set pattern to where we put the different colors.

Every now and then we’d step back and point out which areas needed more pink or orange or maybe a little gray. We mixed most of these colors on the fly, so there is a lot of variation within the color families, and that makes it even more awesome, I think. It brings a gorgeous spot of color to the corner of the living room that was previously a little dark.

I couldn’t be happier, and we get a lot of compliments on our artwork from visitors. It’s fun to able to say, “oh yeah, that one? David and I painted that ourselves!”

That is beautiful! I think painting is good therapy. I may have to try this!

  • Thanks Amy! It was good therapy… we did a lot of talking and soul-searching during our many nights of painting. It was really nice!

I am so impressed! I could never create anything like this, Heather! Great job!

  • Thank you Cari! It wasn’t hard at all… you could definitely do it! Really, it’s just overlapping rows of circles (we traced a wine glass) and paint in the petals created from the overlap. Easy peasy! 😀
