I’ve had a hard week, emotionally, and I’ve been struggling with my writing, so I thought I’d go for something a little lighter, something fun to bring my mood up a little… my top 10 teen crushes!
I was inspired by Kate of Can I Get Another Bottle of Whine, who wrote a blog post about her teenage crushes. I’ve compiled my own list of the guys I crushed on when I was a preteen and teenager… and what a fun walk down Nostalgia Lane this was!
I give you, in no particular order, my favorite fantasy guys from 1989 to 1994!
| 1. Joey McIntyre Oh my, how I adored little Joey Joe! I was a huge New Kids on the Block fan, and he was the youngest, so in my mind that meant that there was an actual possibility that he could end up with me. I mean, yeah, that makes perfect sense, right?New Kids on the Block were the first band I saw in concert. I was 11 and my Papa begrudgingly took a friend and I to the concert, where he endured two hours of being surrounded by screaming and excited preteen girls, all so I could see Joey Joe twirling and whirling on stage, only 30 feet from my fingertips! |
| 2. Jordan Knight Jordan was my #2 crush, just behind Joey Joe. My favorite song was “Please Don’t Go, Girl”, because Jordan and Joey sang together oh-so-sweetly. He was older than Joey, practically a grown man at 16 years old. Of course, I was a lowly 11 years old at the time, so it was hard to envision the day when I would be so grown. Those chocolate brown eyes, that gorgeous voice and that luscious hair… and he’s not too shabby looking now, either! |

4. Jared Leto I loved to watch “My So-Called Life”, and it wasn’t just because I identified with Angela (Claire Danes) and her teenage angst. I adored Jordan Catalano’s eyes… what teenage girl in the early ’90′s didn’t? I love the movie “Girl, Interrupted”, not just because it’s a great story of one young girl’s travels through the mental health system, but also because Jared Leto’s smoldering eyes are there, begging Susanna (Winona Ryder) to run away to Canada with him.How on Earth did she refuse? |

6. Adam Duritz It’s no secret that my favorite band of all time is Counting Crows, and their lead man, Adam Duritz, is my long-standing crush. My papa bought me their first album, “August and Everything After”, when I was 13 years old, and I played it over and over until I wore out that first CD. I replaced it with my babysitting money, and promptly wore that CD out too. I absolute love Adam’s voice, his lyrical poetry, his goofy dreadlocks and his live performances.Adam is on “the list” for me… if he showed up at my door looking for a one night stand, I’m pretty sure I would kiss my husband good night and tell him I’d see him tomorrow. Heh. |
| 7. Michael Schoeffling I have to say, this man was the star of many an inappropriate teenage fantasy for me. His scenes with Winona Ryder in “Mermaids” were the height of steamy to my young and inexperienced mind, and I watched that movie over and again, usually when my mom was working late at night. I remember feeling very embarrassed when my mom (or god forbid, my dad) would watch that movie with me, because of the sexuality in some of the scenes.Of course, most people recognize Michael Schoeffling as Jake Ryan from “Sixteen Candles”, the hottie crush of Samantha (Molly Ringwald). I was a big fan of that one, too. |
| 8. Corey Haim Corey Feldman was such a cutie in “The Goonies”, and even more so in “Stand By Me”, but Corey Haim still beat him out as the cuter of the two in my book! I loved him in “License to Drive”, and even before that, as the nerdy star of “Lucas”. There was something just so appealing in his awkward grin and bright eyes! |

10. David Webb My very best teen crush was my now-husband. When I met him, he was an amazing artist (then and now) who drew cartoons for the school newspaper and bashfully grinned at me when we’d pass in the hallway. He stole my heart almost 20 years ago, at the tender age of 13, and he’s still my best friend. He’s gotten even more handsome over the years, too! |
