Have you heard about Molly Bears? Molly Bears was founded in 2010 by Bridget Crews, in memory of her stillborn daughter, Molly. There are many volunteers on the Molly Bears team who work to create custom weighted bears for families who have lost a baby or child up to 12 months old.

We are the grateful recipients of a custom weighted “Clara Bear”, thanks to the Molly Bears team, and the generous and loving donations of the ladies in my June 2012 due date group – the June Bugs. The same donation also provided a memory bear for a fellow due date group member, Missy, who lost her son Blake to SIDS at 6 months old, as well as bears for 9 other people on the Molly Bears waiting list. I cannot tell you how thoughtful and supportive these ladies have been to me over the past almost-10 months since Clara died.

Our bear is beautiful and weighs exactly 7 pounds 9 ounces – Clara’s birth weight. It’s been so long since I’ve felt her weight in my arms, and it means the world to me to have this memory bear. My suggestion for decoration on our bear was “pink and/or purple, maybe butterflies or fairies?” – because I really wasn’t sure what I wanted, but David draws a lot of butterflies and fairies. Our bear has pink and purple bows in her ears, and a fairy patch with butterfly wings on her belly. It’s perfect… no one could have done a better job.

Molly Bears Fundraiser - 60% of all art sales at until July 1 will be donated to Molly Bears!

Lakin and Addah love this darling bear. They never got to hold Clara (or see her except in pictures, because I thought it would upset them), so they are really enjoying getting to hold “her” now. They’ve been taking turns taking care of her, and Addah made her a little bed in the living room. It’s very sweet, and I dare say their tween attitudes have improved since our special bear arrived. Of course, who knows how long that will last, but we can hope!

The Molly Bears’ goal is to provide a bear for every set of empty arms, to place supportive and educational literature in every hospital and to fund SIDS and infant loss research efforts. Each bear costs an average of about $45.00 to create, and the Molly Bears team spends in excess of $2,000 each month on shipping fees! They rely on donations, so that they can provide every pair of empty arms with a special bear.

From now until July 1, we are donating 100% of every sale of David’s artwork to Molly Bears. There are cards, prints, postcards and canvas art of fairies, mermaids, dragons and fairy tales for sale. Something for everyone… and he does custom work too, so if you don’t see something you like, send us an email and he’ll see what he can do. Remember, 100% of every sale goes straight to Molly Bears on July 1, in honor of Clara Edith and my wonderful friends, the June Bugs! Please help us to spread the word and raise some money for this wonderful cause!

  1. This absolutely put a smile on my face this morning and what a wonderful idea for sure. So happy to see that you got a little something (this adorable bear) to remind you of Clara. Lovely remembrance for sure. And I will share this post on for sure 🙂

  2. This is a sweet idea and a comfort to parents like yourselves. Thanks for sharing your story and bringing awareness and for hooking up to the Hump Day Hook Up

    1. Thanks Molley! The fundraising hasn’t gone as well as we’d hoped, but I like to think that we at least brought some awareness to the issue of stillbirth and infant loss.
